What happens to our weekly over the summer when Stetson is out?

We plan for it rather than ride it out. The usual approach is to keep the weekly but shorten it and move it earlier, lean the question mix toward the year-round residents rather than the students, and put the marketing budget into the reopening in late August. Venues that quietly keep running an unchanged student-facing night through July are the ones that end up cancelling in September.

Should we host during a downtown festival weekend?

Generally no, not as your weekly. Those weekends fill Woodland Boulevard on their own and a hosted night competes with the reason people came. A better use of the date is a short one-off tied to the event itself, or nothing at all, with the weekly resuming on its normal night.

Are you only downtown, or do you cover the rest of DeLand?

Both. Downtown is where most of the demand is, but the plazas along Woodland north of downtown and the venues out toward the airport work too, and they have a quieter, more residential audience that suits an earlier start. We would treat those as a separate program rather than an extension of the downtown one.

Why DeLand venues work with us

DeLand is the county seat and has the most genuinely walkable downtown in Volusia County. Woodland Boulevard and the blocks around Artisan Alley put independent restaurants, breweries, and bars within a few minutes of each other, which means a hosted night is competing with everything else within walking distance on the same evening. That raises the bar and also makes the payoff bigger, because a crowd that walks past your door on the way to somewhere else can be pulled in by a night that looks like it is happening.

The thing that sets DeLand apart from every other market we serve is the academic calendar. Stetson University sits at the north end of downtown, and the difference between a full room in October and the same room in July is not weather, it is whether school is in session. A DeLand program has to be built with that in mind: a strong weekly from late August through April, and a deliberately different plan for the summer rather than a weekly that quietly dies in June.

Stetson’s calendar swings downtown foot traffic more than any tourist season does. Late August through April is the strong stretch, and May through July needs its own plan rather than the same weekly with fewer people.

Everything is within a walk

Woodland Boulevard and Artisan Alley put your competition three doors away. A night has to be visible from the sidewalk, which is why signage and a host who works the front matter more here than anywhere else we cover.

Event weekends bring a different crowd

The downtown festival and market weekends fill the street with people who are not your regulars. Those are good one-off dates and bad weekly dates, because the room is full whether you host or not.

Getting to DeLand

About thirty-five minutes from our Daytona Beach base. Far enough that we route DeLand with the other West Volusia cities rather than with the coast, which is why an Orange City, Lake Helen, or Pierson booking is easiest to place on the same night of the week as a DeLand one.
